By listening to our community, and reflecting on current circumstances, we have come to the realization that the present moment is a critical time in history when people of transgender identity are in need of an abundance of support for their rights and freedoms. It is also a time when any opportunity to send a clear message of refusal to exlude those of transgender identity, is an opportunity worth taking. We have chosen to send this message through our updated policies which will be inclusive of all people of transgender identity, for all women's nights and men's nights, provided that the person's gender identity conforms to the night in question. Please see the update policy for Special Accommodation Women's Night:
"This night is intended for women from religious or cultural backgrounds, or those who feel most comfortable in a space without visible genitals. Attendees: All women are asked to keep their genitals covered."
We stand by our original motivation to support the freedom and autonomy of women whose religious practices require a more restricted environment. We intended to provide this support as well as to provide inclusiveness of trans community members, by welcoming those of transgender identity on both inclusive women's night and almost every other day of each month. This was our genuine and heartfelt attempt to be inclusive and respectful of everyone in our community.
Please understand where our hearts have been during this time and throughout our rich history of inclusion.
All the best,
Archimedes Banya
